On 24th September, we welcomed an infant vervet monkey at the LNP transit enclosure. Jeff was found alone by farmers in Chisamba district of Central Province. They quickly contacted ZPP and transported him to LNP. At approximately 2 weeks old, he is drinking infant milk every 2 hours and getting much-needed physical comfort from primate handlers.

About Jeff
At just two weeks old, little Jeff arrived at the Lusaka National Park transit enclosure after being found alone by farmers in Chisamba District, Central Province. The farmers quickly contacted the Zambia Police Service, and Jeff was safely transported for urgent care.
Still incredibly young and vulnerable, Jeff required infant milk feeds every two hours, along with constant warmth and comfort from his primate caregivers.
Since his rescue, Jeff has made steady progress in rehabilitation, showing encouraging physical growth and healthy weight gain.
He transitioned successfully from Nan to Alula milk formula, adapting well despite a brief period of diarrhoea during the changeover. Now taking 50 ml of milk every two hours, Jeff continues to grow stronger each day.
Jeff is a jovial and friendly little monkey with a playful personality. He forms close bonds with his caregivers and is often found clinging to their legs or sitting on their shoes, always wanting to be nearby.
While he was initially very dependent on human comfort, everything changed when another young vervet, Twaambo, arrived at the nursery. The two quickly formed a strong bond, and Jeff has since become more socially confident, spending much of his time alongside his new companion as they continue their rehabilitation journey together.
