Food preparation for the elephants

Food preparation for the primates

Maintenance, cleaning and preparing the boma and viewing hide.

WDC Discovery Day:
Take a conservation class with the children in the Wildlife Discovery Centre.

Research:
Volunteers support our research through:

  • Assisting with elephant health checks and growth rate data collection

  • Data entry, digitising, and data clean-up

  • Behavioural data collection (elephants & primates)

  • Mammal transect drives

  • Vegetation quadrats

  • Creating video ethograms (= video clip examples of various behaviours for elephants & primates)

Wider Park Management Support:

  • Removing invasive plant species and promoting native flora

  • Habitat management (selective bush clearing)

  • Snare sweeps

Personal projects:

We encourage all volunteers to bring their own skills and expertise to their placement. Here are some ways you can contribute:

Communications department:

  • Assist with regular project updates including blog posts, newsletter entries, keeper’s diary, volunteer blog and adoption Padlet updates etc.

  • Assist with the production of regular Volunteer Programme updates for social media and marketing purposes, including regular updates on the Volunteer Alumni and WhatsApp group.

  • Collaborate on brainstorming and exploring innovative ideas to enhance fundraising and engagement efforts.

  • Contribute your creativity and tech skills to help develop exciting new concepts.

 

Research Department:

Assist in the research and development of ‘modern’ activities for fundraising (any volunteers with tech background.) These could include:

  • Virtual and augmented reality - help create immersive VR experiences/storytelling to showcase conservation efforts and educate the public.

  • Creating “Geocaching” type experiences

  • Virtual or digital escape rooms

  • Make the past data entry more fun by gamification Wildlife data 'games’: Organise competitions where volunteers compete to digitize data or tag camera trap images
