LOT 9: RHINO, KWA ZULU NATAL, SOUTH AFRICA
Photo on print by Antony Spencer
A striking monochrome portrait of a rhinoceros paused at the water’s edge, its reflection mirroring both strength and fragility. This contemplative image speaks to resilience and the urgent need to protect one of Africa’s most threatened species.

“Towards the end of a 16-hour overnight stint in a wildlife hide my hopes were beginning to fade
when a couple of black rhino appeared. The last of the soft morning light was fading but was still
soft enough to sidelight these incredible animals from very close range. Just before disappearing
back into the bush, the wind dropped providing perfect reflections of the male raising his head
and finishing drinking. Kwa Zulu Natal, South Africa.”
